The Super Pepper
Israel’s Hebrew University has recently developed a genetically enhanced pepper hybrid. The pepper which comes in various colors can be raised in colder temperature, have a greater resistance to viruses have a longer shelf life and greater yield.
The new peppers are sold worldwide. In 2005, sales of the hybrid seeds amounted to over $9 million and are expected to increase. Total peppers exports from Israel amounted to $80 million and constituted the leading vegetable export from the country.
