Buzzzz..Keep your eyes on the road.!
According to recent studies, 60% of driving accidents on the road could be avoided if the driver was given a half second warning prior to the accident. Jerusalem based Mobileye Vision has invented a 3-in-1 camera enhanced driving aid that will help drivers get that half second and more.
The Mobileye is a small camera that is mounted to the lower part of the car windshield and scans the road for possible problems. Using photo processing technology the system, known as AWACS will warn the driver of three possible obstacles. If the car veers out of the lane, gets to close to another vehicle or notices an impending froward collision, the driver will hear a tone emit from the unit giving the driver time to avoid the accident.
Currently the market for visual warning systems currently stants at $11 million, it is expected to boom in the coming years to $2.4 billion by 2010. Mobileye expects to sell 200,000 of its AWACS in Israel alone and has already signed various distribution sgreements across Europe, the US and Japan.
